About Turtle Island Creations

Valerie is a Mi'kmaq beader, jewerly artists, and sewer. She is a mom to 2 young daughters, and her and her partner live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her community is Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation.

Valerie learned to bead from a close friends in 2016. She has since become a beading instructor, and does workshops for different organizations and communities in Nova Scotia. Valerie has also been a presenter for the Treaty Education Speakers Bureau, and has been awarded an Arts Nova Scotia Materials Grant in 2023. During her second maternity leave in 2023, Valerie taught herself to sew, learning skills while doing online tote bag tutorials. While making ribbon skirts for her 2 daughters she came up with the idea of making ribbon tote bags.
